SCAR and Hobart
I am back from the SCAR meeting and Hobart, Tasmania. It was a long flight, but went pretty smooth on the way down there. It was pouring down when I landed in Hobart, but it cleared up for the rest of the meeting. The weather was pretty nice...wonderful temps as it was in the lower 40's...gorgeous! Ate a lot of fish (fres caught)...had plenty of raspberry soda (some of the best ever)...and stayed it the coolest hotel so of my life. My "hotel" was the Aurora Australis, the Australian Antarctic Divisions Antarctic research vessel. Pretty cool!
The meeting went smoothless, met up with the NLC/PMSE guys from AAD: Jonh French, Andy Klekociuk, Ray Morris, and Damien Murphy...great people and they do some fantastic work down at Davis. I also had a change to chat with Vladimir Papitasvilli, our NSF OPP manager.
I presented three posters and gave one talk. Quite a different venue since it was a broad science audience at the meeting, spanning all sciences that are being done in Antarctica. So my job there was more to represent aeronomy (aeronomy was one of the absolute smallest disciplines represented) than to discuss our work. Of course, I wanted to promote AIM...the job was done walking around with an AIM t-shirt and make sure I talked with all the NLC/PMSE researchers. It appeared to be a succes since the all were very interested in collaboration and were looking forward to its launch.
I will post pictures as soon as I get them down loaded to the computer.
