Not much going on here

We have now no more cats :) Some people from Wellsville stopped by and got both of them. The cats will be indoor and catch mice outside once in a while. So they will be a whole lot happier at their new house.

I heard from several of my old friends in AK: John Styers, Lina C, and Keith. Keith is actually in Salt Lake where he have been training for the Olympic in speed skating. Pretty cool.

I made a first draft on a NLC paper and gave it to Mike to read through. But now it is in progress and hopefully we can get it submitted within the next month or so.

The MaCWAVE paper is now in the editors hand to decide for publication.

My candidacy exam is coming up soon, the 20th of April, I have to list 5 articles that I will know in great detail. Well, that will cover quite an area in NLC research and I am not sure how I will manage that in 4 weeks...should have start studies two months ago instead.

cats gone...almost

Ok, we found somebody to take the cats. They already got Rosie, but we couldn't catch Polly at that time. Whenever we get her, they will come and get her or we will stop by with her. Great! Good for both us and the cats. They do not have to live in fear of the huskies anymore :)

I need to write an experience letter and submit my expense report for the AGU New Orleans meeting. I received a travel grant and they need this information. I was sure I had already done it, but apparently not.

I have been writing some more on the NLC paper...almost done. It will be good to get that out of the way and start focusing on my thesis work.

Paper accepted

Allright...Bob's paper was accepted yesterday. Now we can only hope they will be published in the same issue of Geophysical Research Letter. That would be awesome. Bob's paper applies the S-transform to the Antarctic bore described in my paper. In addition, Bob have written a JGR paper applying a two-dimensional analysis in which some really cool wave parameters are analyzed, like breaking and change in bore/duct depth. That should be an awesome paper.

More pictures added

I added pictures from our Bryce Canyon and Las Vegas trip in 2004 when my mom, dad, and grandma were here. The Las Vegas gallery also include wedding pics.

Soren is now 2 1/2 years old...

Wauw, times fly! Soren is now 2 1/2 years old and going strong. Otherwise nothing much else is going on. I thought we had gotten rid of a cat yesterday. Melissa ran Odin (Bert) and when they got home they ran into Polly...Odin got her pretty good and we couldn't get him to let go. Blood all over the place...but it was mostly from Odin since Polly made a little cut in his tongue. Polly did escape and ran to the shed. I saw her later jumping around in there, but haven't seen her otherwise. Odin was very happy about his little hunting surprise and was cheered on by the fellow dogs since it appeared just outside the kennels.

Illusions

I found a couple of optical illusions on the web. They are way cool and shows how stupid we really are! Try to count the white/black dots in the first figure. The last figure do not need any explanations :)

Updates

I added a page with my research awards...I finally had just a few awards, just enough to justify a page for it :) It will mostly be for my own purpose so that when I write CV's I can just go there and find all the info I need.

I also added a gallery from PARS summer school 2005. Most of the pictures are taken from fellow participants. I hope they don't mind. If so, please let me know :)

Finally got the revised version of the MaCWAVE paper out. I am very happy about the result. It ended up being a great paper with a lot of good information.

USU Grad Symposium

Signed up for the graduate symposium...mostly for the fun of it. It gives a chance to show off some more work and see what other grad students are doing in their research. I will show some of my work in Noctilucent CLouds.

SCAR travel grant award

Yahoo...Tasmania, here I come...

I received the NSF travel grant for the SCAR meeting in Hobart in July. $2500, so I should be able to find a US carrier for that prize :)

MaCWAVE

Almost done with the revision. We will finish it up on Sunday and get it out of the door. The paper actually turned into a pretty nice one...lot of stuff in it.

Bore figs and MaCWAVE

I finished the figures for Bob's JGR bore paper. I don't know when it will be submitted, but knowing Bob it will be pretty soon. The MaCWAVE paper (revised version) is due on Wednesday and I am just waiting for respomse from Dave and Biff, then it is good to go.

News paper

It has been a while since I have posted, but I have been sick with the flu and felt quite lazy. We had some good publicity for the sled dog race and the Herald Journal photographer eally liked my dogs :) Maybe it was because they were so tired that he could stuff his lens all the way up in the face. Melissa and Skadi made front cover the Sunday the race finished and the follwoing Sunday Ry and I was on the cover of the Horizon section. Here are the pics I scanned in...not the best quality and I will see if I can get the electronic versions.
